We want to make a positive impact on society and a portion of the proceeds from every sale goes to a local organization. We give for the sake of giving and are one of the few local home buyers who pledge a donation with every sale.

Fredericksburg Fire Department

History of the Fredericksburg Fire Service

There were many volunteer fire service organizations starting after the city of Fredericksburg was formed but most of these attempts did not last long. As the department was strictly volunteer there was no clear organization and many were in direct competition with each other. By 1861 all of these companies had been disbanded.

In 1882 the city of Fredericksburg, VA purchased a ladder truck for the sum of $400.00. An official department was formed consisting of 30 men. The equipment was kept at the city courthouse until the fire station was built on Princess Anne Street in 1890. In 1915 the first piece of motorized fire equipment was purchased. The unit could pump 350 gallons per minute and had a small chemical tank and ladders.

The first full-time salaried firefighters were hired in the early 1920s to operate the trucks and keep the station in working order. They were paid a salary of $17.00 a week. By the 1940s Fredericksburg had three fire trucks in its fleet. By 1945 there were seven paid truckman and a full-time Fire Chief. With call volume increasing and the expanded city area, a second fire station was desperately needed and it was built and complete in 1988. The station was named for longtime volunteer firefighter and former City Council member Samuel E. Perry.

Currently the Fire Department is comprised of 56 uniformed personnel and four civilians. The Fire Department operates a modern fleet of pumpers, aerials, ambulances and other associated vehicles to meet its’ mission of protecting the life and property of those who live, work or travel through Fredericksburg, VA.
